Irene Zych Ulan of Westhampton died peacefully on April 9 in Albany. She was 95.

Born in Brooklyn on May 6, 1926, she spent her childhood in Clifton, New Jersey, and early married life in Saddle Brook, New Jersey. She and her husband, Frank Ulan, moved their family to Westhampton in 1958, where they raised their five children while operating Westhampton Bowl and The Buoy Motel.

After the passing of her husband, Frank Ulan, she relocated to Bloomville, New York.

Ulan loved to dance, especially the polka. She had a curious, inquisitive mind, and loved to read medical and anthropology materials. She was an avid follower of current events, always thinking about the next generation and what their world might look like.

Known lovingly as “Babci” to her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, she was kind, compassionate, and generous, her family said. She was most proud of raising her large family and often said that it was her finest accomplishment in life.

She is predeceased by her husband, Frank Ulan; her son Phillip Ulan; and her parents Stanley and Mary Zych. She is survived by her children, Tom Ulan, Paul Ulan, Linda Ulan, David Ulan and their spouses; 12 grandchildren, and seven great-grandchildren.

The family will be holding a private memorial service at a future date.

Memorial donations may be sent to the Rosenberg Foundation for Children, rfc.org, and the Daughters of Sarah Nursing Home, daughtersofsarah.org.
