Gloria W. New of Water Mill died at her home on February 7. She was 87.
She was born to Anastasia and Wladyslawa Borkowski in Queens.
After graduating from John Adams High School in Jamaica, she worked as a secretary in Manhattan.
In 1953, she married A. Richard New and the couple had three daughters. After moving to Water Mill in the 1960s, New worked for Southampton Hospital. Later, she became the secretary for the Southampton Conservation Board. Upon her retirement, the couple wintered in Naples, Florida.
New’s many interests included traveling, sailing, painting, knitting, gardening and enjoying her grandchildren and her great-grandchildren.
She is survived by her three daughters, Karen Tureski and her husband Tom, Michelle New, Diane New and her partner Alec Chang; as well as four grandchildren, Michael Tureski and his wife Stacey, Dana Distefano and her husband Chris, Mark Tureski and his wife Eileen and Stephen Tureski and his wife Kelly; and eight great-grandchildren.
A memorial service will be planned for a future date.
